They are poems whose first letters of each line, when read vertically, form a word.

Here’s an example to exercise our neurons this morning…

Bought by the blood of Jesus
Living in His victory
Established in faith
Saved from the curse of sin, despair, depression, and death
Secure in the knowledge of His forgiveness and faithfulness
Expectant that good things will happen today
Delivered to bring deliverance!
