There’s an image that I come across from time to time on the Internet that I just love looking at… a cat looking at itself in a mirror. What’s interesting is that in the mirror’s reflection… rather than seeing a kitten… we see a lion!
This image so encourages me! It makes me think, “I’m not a scared little cat… I’m a lion!” It causes me to say to myself, in the face of my challenges, “I won’t be defeated! Yes, this trial is intense, but I will not be defeated!
This is my encouragement for you today… don’t get defeated!
- Maybe you’re going through a time of mourning that would like to crush you…
- Maybe you’re struggling to get back on your feet after a breakup or intense family conflict.
- Maybe you’re fighting an addiction that just won’t seem to let go…
Even if I don’t know what all you’re facing, let me tell you: don’t get defeated! You’re not defenseless or left without help.
As the psalmist says, “My help comes from the Lord, Who made heaven and earth.” (the Bible, Psalm 121:2) In the midst of your earthly difficulties, your help comes from heaven. Help comes to you from the LORD! Not from just anyone, but from your Heavenly Father.
My friend, your life is far too precious, your future far too glorious, to let yourself fall into defeat. (see the Bible, Jeremiah 29:11) Lift your head… your Savior is there, right beside you. (see Matthew 28:20) He’s coming to your rescue!

This devotional was just what I needed this morning. I woke up with bills and stress on my mind and it was hard to focus in getting ready for work. I was feeling like a failure , and as if I will never be free from financial bondage abd lack. But when I checked my email and saw, Cynthia don’t be defeated , my attitude changed. I listened and read the corresponding scriptures and begin to have hope.
