Grace is a person

For us, as disciples of Jesus, Christmas time is an opportunity to celebrate God’s mercy and grace that are new every morning. As this carol says…

“Silent night! Holy night!

Son of God, love’s pure light

Radiant beams from Thy Holy Face

With the dawn of redeeming grace,

Jesus, Lord, at Thy Birth!

Jesus, Lord, at Thy Birth!”

The miracle of Christmas is the miracle of the incarnation! This slightly strange word means that God Himself became human to join us in our reality.

“The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.” (the Bible, John 1:14, NIV)

Christmas is not a concept. Christmas is not the celebration of a philosophy, a doctrine, or even a theology.

  • Christmas is a person
  • Grace is a person
  • Truth is a person
  • The way is a person
  • Life is a person

In the person of Jesus, we find access to the infinite love of God, our Father. It’s tremendous to study the Bible, marvelous to explore theology, and very helpful to know verses by heart. But this will never replace the spiritual mystery of the person of Jesus, who is the Word of God Himself, the Word incarnate.

God didn’t come to give us a doctrine…He came to give Himself, in person! He is love incarnate, and He is your Savior.

Let’s glorify Him in praise together!

P.S. If you’d like, I invite you to join in worship with Chris Tomlin as he sings “Silent Night”…
