His Word is a source of joy!

Sometimes, we may ask ourselves, is being joyful all the time even realistic? Or perhaps we may think, does God want me to be happy? Yes and yes! If the Bible says, “Rejoice always” (see 1 Thessalonians 5:16, NKJV), then that’s because it’s possible…! And it’s His great desire for you.  

The Lord leaves us treasures throughout the Old and the New Testaments about walking in true happiness. His Word itself is truly a source of joy! Today, let’s dive into two passages about this: Psalm 1 and Matthew 5:1-12.  

“Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the path of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful; but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in His law he meditates day and night.” (Psalm 1:1-2) These verses say that the psalmist finds his delight in the law of the Lord. In other words, it does his soul good and brings him joy, a feeling of satisfaction. 

Also, Jesus says, “‘Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.’” (Matthew 5:3-4)

Did you know that both of these words for “blessed,” the Hebrew esher and the Greek makarios, mean “happy”?

Yes, the Lord desires for you to be happy, not only here on this Earth but for all eternity!

• Walking in God’s paths brings contentment,
• Meditating in the law of the Lord is a source of delight,
• Applying the Beatitudes to your life paves the way for joy…

In fact, everything God does and tells you in His Word is intended to make you happy, truly happy!

And I believe that this becomes a testimony to your friends and all those around you. When they see you glowing, radiant, despite the circumstances, it speaks to them…causes them to wonder and think, “This person has something different…what is it?”

It is the Word of God in action in your life! When you walk in agreement with God’s Word, delighting in it as the psalmist did, you shine with His light and joy. You diffuse His peace. And it’s a powerful witness! Your life speaks of God’s marvelous works. Happiness is living with Him day by day. Happiness is walking in His footprints.

Be happy and allow it to emanate from you to others!
