The blessings of joy

The more I study the gift of joy, the more I want to access it. Joy is available to you every day. You can laugh more and be more productive. The Bible says, “For You grant him lasting blessings; You give him great joy by allowing him into Your presence.” (Psalms 21:6, NET) If you take a few moments to analyze this verse, you’ll find three more secrets about joy:

  1. God will grant you blessings that last. Gratitude will pour out of your mouth.
  2. God promises to give you joy. In other words, joy is a gift directly tied to blessings.
  3. God will allow you to enter into His presence. The psalmist says, “Enter His gates with thanksgiving, and His courts with praise! Give Him thanks! Praise His name!” (Psalms 100:4, NET)

Are you positioned for blessings? God wants to shower you with blessings that can come in many forms. You may receive a new job or a promotion. You may access a grant to start a new company or a scholarship to finally get your college degree. Blessings bring great joy, don’t they?

I’m entering a new season in my life. COVID-19 has caused me to reevaluate my life and make a few dramatic changes. Change is hard, but I’ve really tried to focus on my blessings. I’ve been thanking God a lot lately. I know I don’t deserve these blessings, but I also know that God is good and generous.

Do you remember the old Sunday school song that helped us develop an attitude of gratitude?

Count your blessings; name them one by one.
Count your blessings; see what God has done.
Count your blessings; name them one by one.
Count your many blessings; see what God has done.

If you give thanks for your blessings, you will experience more joy, and you will overflow with it. Oh, by the way, you are a miracle. And I love you more than donuts.

    Thanks Paul for this devo. It’s so true. If you count your many blessings you will feel JOY! Joy is a wonderful thing. Isn’t it great that God has created a way for us to feel good. Feeling good is a choice though. Or maybe I should say… it’s a choice to count your blessings. Because you can’t honestly count your blessings and NOT feel good. I love joy. Yes. It’s a choice and yes I’m thankful for joy. Thank You Father for creating joy for us to feel good. And thank You for giving us so many reasons (blessings) to feel good… feel joyful! I join the hymn writer to say ….
    Joyful, joyful we adore Thee

    Joyful, joyful, we adore Thee,
    God of glory, Lord of love;
    Hearts unfold like flow’rs before Thee,
    Op’ning to the sun above.
    Melt the clouds of sin and sadness;
    Drive the dark of doubt away;
    Giver of immortal gladness,
    Fill us with the light of day!

    In Him,
    Leah
