I absolutely love the story in the Bible when the angel announces the Savior’s birth to the shepherds…
“Then the angel said to them, ‘Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. And this will be the sign to you: you will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger.’ And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying: ‘Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, goodwill toward men!’” (Luke 2:10-14, NKJV)
We know that Jesus wasn’t technically born on December 25 because shepherds didn’t spend nights in the fields in December (a cold and rainy month in Israel…). However, Christmas is a wonderful opportunity to announce the birth of Christ, the Savior.
Here’s a paraphrase of this verse:
Don’t be afraid! For I bring you good tidings of great joy for all people! A Savior is born today, Christ the Lord. Glory to God in the highest, and on Earth peace, goodwill toward men, including you!
Isn’t this marvelous?
What an opportunity to share the Good News during the Christmas season…let’s make the most of it!
