What do you think about when you wake up ??

AMED 38.01

I’d like to start today by wishing you a wonderful New Year in the Lord! May this year be rich with His presence and full of blessings.

This first day of the year, what was your first thought when you woke up? Was it calming, comforting? Or instead, were you already thinking about:

  • That problem that won’t let up,
  • Financial difficulties,
  • Housework to do,
  • Errands to run,
  • Social media,
  • Everything that’ll be weighing you down this year, etc.?

I’d like you to pause for a moment…and think about your thoughts, those first thoughts. What if, like King David, you turned to God and prayed, “Create in me a clean heart, O God. Renew a loyal spirit within me.” (the Bible, Psalm 51:10, NLT)?

Sometimes, professional and family responsibilities weigh heavy on us. And if you’re serving as a volunteer in your church or another organization, that can also add stress and/or fatigue. Yet, your work, family, and service are also gifts from God that should bring you joy. They are blessings, there for your fulfillment.

So, may I give you this simple advice? Choose your thoughts carefully: bring them into captivity to the obedience of Jesus Christ. (Read 2 Corinthians 10:5, NKJV)  This will help you to cultivate thoughts of gratitude and appreciation. Gradually, your mind will be filled with these positive thoughts and turned towards the Lord first and foremost. I encourage you to adopt this morning habit. Be vigilant about your thoughts, and refuse to allow thoughts that could spoil your morning and day to invade your mind.

Would you like to pray with me right now? “Lord Jesus, I want to form the new habit of fixing my thoughts on You from the moment I wake up, not on my schedule or worries. Create in me a clean heart and purify my thoughts so that when the morning comes, I can hear Your voice and feel Your presence. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

May the Lord strengthen you! Happy New Year!
