What’s the point of worrying?

“‘Do not fear, for I am with you; Do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, surely I will help you, Surely I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.’” (Isaiah 41:10, NASB) 

It’s human nature to worry. One day, Jesus said to Martha, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things.” (see the Bible, Luke 10:41)

We’re often like Martha: we worry and get troubled about many things. We pressure ourselves to do the impossible when…Jesus is there, in the house.

In this passage, Martha has only one thing on her mind: being a perfect hostess for her guest. What Martha is forgetting is that the true Master and host of the house, the only one able to respond perfectly to her needs, is the guest Himself!

How does this relate to you and me today? Not focusing on what stresses us out, but instead, thinking about Jesus who accomplishes miracles, heals the sick, frees the captives, and restores the brokenhearted.

If you’re facing an impossible situation, two things are important:

• Not worrying
• Not trying to solve it by yourself!

Present your problem to Jesus…because He can do anything! Why not let the Master of your life become the Master and host of your house? You have everything to gain: a life of confidence in your God, a life open to what He can do through you, a life where you won’t have to be troubled about what you can’t control anyway.

Jesus teaches us: “Can all your worries add a single moment to your life?… So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today.” (see the Bible, Matthew 6:27 and 34, NLT) 

Worry doesn’t lengthen your life…quite the opposite! So what good is worrying? Do your part – what’s possible – and let God do His – the impossible.
