Where does your security lie?

If you take an honest look at your life today, in what, or in whom, do you find your security? We often hope to draw our sense of security from many things. For example…

• From our family,
• Our work,
• Our finances,
• Our friends,
• Our own abilities and competence,
• Or our service to the church.

Jesus says to us, “‘If you want to be my disciple, you must, by comparison, hate everyone else—your father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters—yes, even your own life. Otherwise, you cannot be my disciple.’” (the Bible, Luke 14:26, NLT)

These words may seem harsh to us. But in reality, this commandment is given to us with great love. In all, Jesus must occupy the first place in our lives, and our security must be founded in Him first and foremost.

Everything else is fleeting, temporary, short-lived… and will eventually pass away. But Jesus… is the One who will forever remain. He is the Eternal God. Could you find a shelter, a refuge, more secure than Him?

The psalmist, thousands of years ago, wrote this: “You are my rock and my fortress. For the honor of your name, lead me out of this danger. Pull me from the trap my enemies set for me, for I find protection in you alone. I entrust my spirit into your hand. Rescue me, Lord, for you are a faithful God.” (see Psalm 31:3-5, NLT)

Still today, Jesus is your rock, the refuge for your life, the shelter for your heart. Oh, He will never abandon you… His faithfulness guarantees your security.
