Each year, grocery stores everywhere remind us that it’s Easter time with elaborate displays, whole aisles filled with chocolates and candies of every kind… which leads us to an important question. Is Easter simply a celebration of… chocolate? Of course, the answer is no. Easter reminds us of Jesus’s death and resurrection, that He conquered death and all its power! Easter, or Resurrection Day, is the heart of the Gospel message: “It is Christ who died, and furthermore is also risen”! (the Bible, Romans 8:34)
The first Easter, Passover, is mentioned in the Old Testament in Deuteronomy 16:1 and 3: “Observe the month of Abib, and keep the Passover to the Lord your God, for in the month of Abib the Lord your God brought you out of Egypt by night. […] that you may remember the day in which you came out of the land of Egypt all the days of your life.”
Passover commemorated the day the God of Israel freed His people from slavery. God’s people left Egypt. Finally! Deliverance… after 400 years of enslavement and bondage.
In the same way, Jesus was our Passover lamb… it’s by His death and resurrection that we were liberated from the power and overwhelming weight of our sin! His sacrifice allows us to “leave Egypt,” the place of slavery. What a deliverance for all those who have become children of God! It’s a victory that we celebrate during this Easter season… a victory for you, too!
Easter is far from a celebration of chocolate and colored eggs… it’s a celebration of God’s victory, of your deliverance and redemption through the blood of His Son, Jesus! Lord Jesus shows his greatest love for us. Carrying our sins as a sinful man onto the cross. There’s no one like Lord Jesus who would lay down His life for our sin. Hallelujah
