You can be healed of trauma

Let’s face the facts—most of us have suffered trauma in our lives. The Bible tells us, “‘…He causes His sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.’” (Matthew 5:45, NIV) As much as you might ask God “why?”, the answer will always come back the same: “why not?”

Even though we are Christians who love God, we will have tribulations and losses. There is a constant battle for our souls, families, and divine destinies. Satan has three objectives for your life: he wants to steal; kill; and destroy your joy, blessings, and peace of mind. Jesus wants to bless us: “‘The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.’” (John 10:10, NIV) Do you feel the battle for your soul? What are you going to do differently in the months to come?

A friend once told me that the definition of insanity is doing the same thing but expecting different results. If this is true, could you take a few moments and list three changes that you will commit to these coming months? I’ll list a few of mine in order to spur your thoughts and insight:

  1. I will work out four days a week.
  2. I will slow down my decision-making process in order to make better team decisions.
  3. I will fast and pray more in an effort to become more Christlike.

I’ve found an interesting phenomenon that has tripped me up on several occasions—the effects of trauma. I almost died four years ago when I suffered two strokes. This trauma haunted me for a few years. I needed counseling, time to heal, and rest. God is so good. Now, I feel like I’m free from the trauma.

Have you experienced trauma? Have you been healed and set free, or has it stopped you from making new and healthier decisions?

I’m praying for you right now: “May God Himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul, and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. The One who calls you is faithful, and He will do it.” (1 Thessalonians 5:23-24, NIV)

Trauma is real. It can cause you to be stuck, but the healing power of Jesus is more real. Don’t forget you are a miracle.
